What We Believe

We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, completely inspired of God, and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life.

GOD

We believe in one omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient God eternally existing in Three Persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit; one in nature, equal in attributes, power and glory.

JESUS

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is God made flesh, the only begotten of the Father, born of a virgin making Him truly God and truly man at the same time, and that He is the atoning sacrifice of God that atones for the sins of the world.

HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God, the precious gift of our loving Father through His dear Son to all that believe, regenerating, sanctifying, convicting, empowering, and indwelling Christians as our Comforter.

HUMANITY

We believe that humans, male and female, were created in the image of God, and in a state of innocency, but that image was marred when man willfully transgressed God’s law, resulting in loss of communion with God, now dead in sin, and radically depraved, in need of salvation.

SIN

We believe that sin is disobedience to the revealed will of God, that it separates us from a pure and holy God, and that Christ died to redeem us from the penalty of our sins, though we still may suffer the temporal consequences of the sins.

SALVATION

We believe that salvation is by grace alone (meaning it is all of God and that He’s provided a way), through faith alone (meaning God has chosen to save those that respond to Him with humble repentance and faith in His provision), in Jesus Christ alone (as the provision of God), according to the Scriptures alone (meaning nothing else is the power of God to save us), for the glory of God alone (which is what we were created to do).

ANGELS

We believe that angels are created spiritual beings (not spirits of the dead, nor glorified humans) that are ministers and messengers to mankind on God’s behalf, though some have followed Satan (who himself was once an angel) and have fallen to now be referred to as demons.

THE CHURCH

We believe the Church, being all Christians everywhere, is the body of Christ worshipping and fellowshipping together, reaching and teaching the lost, engaging and evangelizing the world; and that she is also the Bride of Christ which should be striving to live holy and loving lives which reflect the holiness and of her Groom, Jesus Christ.

END TIMES

We believe that Christ will come in clouds to received His Bride, the Church, so that she will return and reign with Him as He judges the world and sets up His Kingdom for a thousand years, after which He will usher in a New Heaven and a New Earth where believers will live eternally with Him, while unbelievers will live eternally separated from Him in the lake of fire.

Our Pastor

Hey, I’m Pastor Chris. God called me to pastor Johnston Union in September 2019 after several months of filling in. My wife (Kristen) and I have been married since September 2009, and have two children: a son, Eli (born July 2010) and daughter, Greer (born September 2014). We are animal lovers with multiple dogs and chickens. I am active with my kids, as they are very active in sports. I also work during the week for Champion Pest Services, and as a Professor of Theology at Carolina Bible Institute & Seminary in Pine Level, NC. More than anything, I am passionate about helping people experience Christ through teaching and preaching the Word of God.
